Clear Aligners at Our Newton Office
Invisalign moves teeth with a series of clear plastic trays, each one shaped slightly differently from the last. You wear them most of the day, take them out to eat and switch to a new set on schedule. Over time your teeth shift into the planned position.
Our Newton team includes Dr. Monique Mabry, DMD, an Invisalign certified provider for adults and teens. She earned her DMD at Boston University with honors in aesthetic dentistry and has been creating smiles in Newton for close to 20 years. She and Dr. Kaceli plan aligner cases with the rest of your smile in mind.
What Invisalign Can Correct
Clear aligners can address many common alignment and bite problems, including:
- Crowded teeth
- Gaps and uneven spacing
- Overbite, underbite and crossbite
- Open bite
- Narrow arches
Not every case suits aligners. Your exam and X-rays tell us whether Invisalign can reach your goals, or whether another approach would work better.
Planning Around Your Goals
Some patients want straighter teeth and nothing more. Others have a list: close a gap, fix a chipped edge, brighten the color. Dr. Kaceli likes to hear the whole list, give each item its due and then work through them in a sensible order.
Straightening often comes first. Once teeth sit where they belong, smaller touches like bonding in Newton or whitening can be planned around the new position. Sometimes moving teeth means less need to reshape them later, which fits Dr. Kaceli's habit of preserving healthy tooth structure.
How Treatment Works
- ConsultationWe examine your teeth, take X-rays and talk about what you want to change.
- Digital impressionsYour teeth are scanned digitally and the records are sent to the lab that makes your aligners. Our Newton office uses iTero and TRIOS 5 intraoral scanners.
- Your first alignersYou come in to pick up your trays and learn how to put them in, take them out and care for them.
- Daily wearAligners work only when they are in, so plan to wear them 20 to 22 hours a day.
- Progress visitsYou return for periodic checkups so we can see that teeth are tracking as planned.
- RetainersWhen treatment ends, you receive Vivera retainers to help hold your teeth in their new position.

Many cases take about 12 to 18 months. Some take longer, up to around two years, depending on how far teeth need to move.
Day-to-Day Life With Aligners
Take your aligners out to eat. That keeps food from getting trapped and protects the trays. Brush your teeth before putting them back in when you can.
To clean the aligners, use a soft toothbrush and lukewarm water. The Invisalign cleaning system or a clear antibacterial soap works well. Avoid hot water, which can warp the plastic.
